As we continue to grow in today’s age, many are taking a closer look at their own wellness practice at the current stage of their life. Black and other women of color are leading the charge for the benefit of their community’s overall health. They span across the beauty industry to health to self-wellness. These women continue to engage in their health by outreaching to their own communities through the innovation of social media. All of these women are great examples of women that are challenging that status-quo of what it means to be healthy.  Take a look at these inspiring examples of women making waves in the health and wellness space while remaining  true to themselves and their craft.

Lauren Ash, Creator of Black Girl in Om & Co-Founder of Lifestyle with Ivory + Ash

 

Lauren Ash is a visionary in what it means to be a black woman advocating for intentional living in the wellness space. She is a yoga & meditation guide, speaker and the creator of the platform, Black Girl in Om.  Her vision for Black Girl in Om was created in 2014 for promoting holistic wellness for women of color and has spread throughout the world through many platforms. Black Girl in Om has a podcast that Lauren co-hosts with her Art Director, Deun Ivory, and the online publication called Om with their editor, Chelchee Johns. It has been recognized by many platforms like OWN, Nike, Well + Good, Forbes, CRWN Magazine, Refinery 29, Essence, and more for being the leading platform for contemporary wellness and intentional living. Latham Thomas, who is also known as “Glow Maven”, is a spiritual leader and master birth doula that is an essential person in the rise of self-wellness. She founded Mama Glow, a great resource for women who are taking control of their own maternal well being. Latham is the author of the best selling book, “Mama Glow: A Hip Guide to a Fabulous and Abundant Pregnancy (2012)*” and recently released her next bestseller, “OWN YOUR GLOW: A Soulful Guide to Luminous Living and Crowning the Queen Within (2017)”. Gianne Doherty, the Founder of W.E.L.L. Summit & Co-Founder of Organic Bath Co. 

 

Gianne Doherty is a clean beauty advocate and educational speaker that created the pioneering summit, W.E.L.L. Summit. She also co-founded a beauty brand dedicated to the mission of clean beauty called Organic Bath Co. Organic Bath Co. was born in 2012 after Gianne moved to Boston and her skin began to break out in hives.  Her partner, Jay Weeks, created an organic, shea butter-based body butter for her and her skin remained changed forever. Haile Thomas, Plant-Based Health Activist 

 

Who says the wellness conversation excludes the youth? This young health activist, Haile Thomas, is known for her amazing plant-based dishes and founding the HAPPY (Healthy Active Positive Purposeful Youth), a non profit organization that has the mission to empower and educate young people in underdeveloped and at-risk communities on the power of plant-based food and nutrition. The New York native has been speaking about health since she was 10 years old, and she shares the message of good health with her followers on social media. She is the youngest certified Integrative Nutrition Health Coach in the US, and she hosts the podcast “Girl Empowered” that features her interviews with a list of inspiring and empowered women. She has a long list of features including the Today Show, Dr. Oz, O Magazine, Teen Vogue, TEDx, and has been awarded a CNN Heroes Young Award in 2017.
